Boulter Upsets Top Seed Rybakina To Reach Queen's Club Semifinals
Katie Boulter, the British wildcard ranked No. 73, upset top seed and former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 in the quarterfinals of the HSBC Championships at London's Queen's Club on Friday.
Boulter had earlier defeated Jaqueline Cristian 6-1, 6-3 to reach the quarterfinal stage. The match against Rybakina saw the British No. 3 take the first set, drop the second, and regain control in the decider to close out the victory.
The win sends Boulter to the semifinals, where she will face Croatia's Donna Vekic. It marks Boulter's deepest run at the Queen's Club tournament.
Rybakina entered the match as the top seed and a proven grass-court champion, having won Wimbledon in 2022. Boulter's aggressive return game and composure under pressure proved decisive on the London grass.
