That layout signals that observers have not abandoned the idea of an eventual launch, but they have shifted toward a timetable that gives OpenAI more room to finish its new safety process. The prices are only a live measure of conviction, not evidence that the company has set an external date, yet they capture the core tension around Astra: confidence that the model will arrive, paired with uncertainty about how long the safety work will take.
The next decisive development is likely to come from process rather than promotion. If OpenAI can show that the new cyber safeguards, evaluation standards and containment rules are working as intended, Astra could still emerge on a delayed but orderly track. If further testing finds the same concerns persisting, the company may have to prolong the pause or narrow what is released first.
