Paris Saint-Germain's Ligue 1 season opener was relocated from the Parc des Princes to Roazhon Park after severe pitch damage caused by exceptional summer heatwaves, the club announced. The French Professional Football League's Competition Committee assessed the conditions and concluded the surface did not meet player safety standards, forcing the move to Rennes' home stadium.
The match was played on August 23 as the first fixture of the 2026-27 Ligue 1 season. Rennes, playing at home, scored twice in the first half, taking a two-goal lead into the break.
PSG has identified a solution to replace the damaged pitch and plans to return to the Parc des Princes for its next home fixture against AS Monaco on September 4.
The disruption to PSG's home advantage was reflected in prediction markets, where the probability of a PSG win dropped sharply to 11.5% by kickoff, with over $849,000 traded in the previous 24 hours. The full-time result, once confirmed by official Ligue 1 statistics, will determine the opening-weekend standings.
