Will Jannik Sinner win the 2026 Men's French Open?
Top seed Jannik Sinner begins his French Open campaign Thursday in a second-round match against Juan Manuel Cerundolo. The tournament, which runs through June 7 at Roland Garros, lost its defending champion when Carlos Alcaraz withdrew before the draw due to a wrist injury.
Sinner enters as the world number one and the pre-tournament favorite, according to seeding and tennis analysts. His path to a first Paris title opened significantly with Alcaraz's absence, removing a rival who had beaten him in two of their past three clay meetings.
The Italian has never progressed beyond the quarterfinals at Roland Garros, reaching that stage in 2024 before losing to eventual runner-up Alexander Zverev. A semifinal appearance last year solidified his status on the surface.
The winner of the Sinner-Cerundolo match advances to a third-round meeting against either Lorenzo Musetti or a qualifier. If Sinner holds serve through the first week, a potential quarterfinal against Andrey Rublev looms.
The men's singles final is scheduled for June 7. Sinner must win six more matches to claim the title.
