South Carolina visits Oklahoma on Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Norman, with kickoff set for 4:15 p.m. ET on SEC Network. Both teams are 4-3, and neither appears in this week's AP Top 25, though South Carolina drew eight points among teams receiving votes. For Shane Beamer's Gamecocks, who are 2-3 in the SEC, a win would mean a third straight conference victory, an even league record and a 5-3 mark that leaves them one win from bowl eligibility. For Brent Venables' Sooners, who are 2-2 in the SEC, it is a chance to follow a road win with a winning conference record heading into November.
South Carolina arrives off its most dramatic result of the season. Malik Orsan kicked a 48-yard field goal as time expired to beat No. 11 Tennessee 27-24 in Columbia, a play set up when edge rusher Dylan Stewart forced a fumble on a sack with 33 seconds left, according to the Associated Press. Quarterback LaNorris Sellers threw for 210 yards and ran for 96 more, scoring twice on the ground. Oklahoma won 23-15 at Mississippi State behind John Mateer, who completed 22 of 29 passes for 283 yards and two touchdowns.
Stewart has been the focus of Oklahoma's week. He sat out the Kentucky game after a one-game suspension for punching an Alabama player on Sept. 26, ESPN reported, and he has forced fumbles in both games since returning at Florida. "He can wreck a game if you let him," Oklahoma offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle told Sports Illustrated. Neither starting quarterback appears on Friday's SEC availability report, according to The Oklahoman. South Carolina listed seven players out, including running back Jawarn Howell and defensive back Quay'sheed Scott, with wide receiver Jayden Sellers and offensive lineman Josiah Thompson lost for the season. Oklahoma ruled out 10 players, among them linebackers Taylor Heim and Cole Sullivan, and listed center Jake Maikkula as questionable. The Sooners did get tackle Michael Fasusi back last week after he missed five and a half games with a shoulder injury.
The matchup also sets one of Oklahoma's strengths against one of its problems. The Sooners rank third in the Football Bowl Subdivision in red-zone defense but 129th in turnover margin at minus-7, according to ESPN, which puts ball security at the center of a game against a defense that has turned pressure into turnovers. On Polymarket on Saturday afternoon, traders priced South Carolina's chance of winning at 39.5% and Oklahoma's at 60.5%, a reading that favors the home team without treating the result as settled.
The SEC's final availability report is due 90 minutes before kickoff and will confirm who suits up on both sides. Whatever happens in Norman, the wider picture sharpens next week, when the College Football Playoff committee releases its first rankings of the 2026 season on Tuesday, Nov. 3.
