MicroStrategy sells any Bitcoin by June 30, 2026?
Strategy, the business-intelligence firm formerly known as MicroStrategy, has set a condition for its potential first-ever sale of Bitcoin: any sale would only occur if it is accretive to shareholders, CEO Phong Le said in a CNBC interview. The company holds roughly 65% of all public-company Bitcoin treasury assets, according to the same report, and has been accelerating its purchases of the cryptocurrency throughout the first quarter of 2026.
Chairman Michael Saylor, who has long held a "never sell" stance on the company's Bitcoin holdings, signaled a softening of that position this year. In a separate recent interview, Saylor said a sale by year-end 2026 was "not unlikely," according to reports. The comments represent a notable pivot from the accumulation-only strategy that had defined Strategy's corporate identity for years.
The company has faced increased financial pressure in 2026, including higher debt service costs and shareholder demands for greater capital efficiency. Analysts have speculated that a sale could help manage balance-sheet obligations or fund new strategic initiatives, though Strategy has not disclosed any specific transaction in SEC filings.
The timeline for any potential Bitcoin sale remains uncertain. The company's most recent disclosures show no executed sale, and no on-chain wallet activity indicates a pending transaction. The CNBC report, published in March, described Strategy as still actively buying Bitcoin, adding to a treasury now valued at billions of dollars.
The next material update for investors will be Strategy's next quarterly earnings report, expected in August, which will disclose any Bitcoin transactions during the preceding quarter. Until then, the market attention remains on any public comments from leadership or regulatory filings that might reveal a sale decision.
