Qatar and Pakistan, the mediators of the US-Iran talks, urged both sides on July 9 to uphold the Islamabad Memorandum after new attacks were launched in the region, according to Al Jazeera. The appeal came as technical-level sessions continued in Switzerland, but no date for a second senior-level round has been announced.
The Islamabad Memorandum, signed June 17, established a 60-day framework for a final deal, with Qatar and Pakistan overseeing the process. The first senior-level US-Iran talks took place in Switzerland on June 21–22, where parties agreed on a roadmap toward a final deal, Al Jazeera reported.
Technical-level sessions have continued weekly in Switzerland since the June round, covering nuclear enrichment limits, sanctions relief, and Strait of Hormuz access. Iran agreed to host IAEA inspectors as part of the process, according to sources from those negotiations.
As of July 11, with six days remaining before the July 17 market close, no second senior-level round has been scheduled. Escalatory incidents reported on July 9 may reduce the likelihood of a meeting in that window.
The next step to watch is whether the US State Department, Iranian Foreign Ministry, or joint mediators announce a second senior-level round before the 60-day framework expires.
